The Michael Jobson Virtual Charity 5k for Orchid
Our next Charity Virtual 5k Run is in the name of our friend and well respected member of the community Michael Jobson. Michael has had testicular cancer and had a testicle removed. Please get behind us on this one! We are organising this charity run to support the male cancer charity Orchid.
It supports and does valuable research into testicular, penile and prostate cancers. It will be run over the Christmas party weekend 23/24th November 2024. Those at the Christmas party can run our fancy dress fun run as part of this. All proceeds will go to the charity.
This is Michael’s story in his words…
“In the November of 2003, at the age of 29, I was diagnosed with testicular cancer. After finding a lump, feeling very tired and getting a lot of pain down below, I had my right testicle removed. By New years Eve I was not allowed alcohol as I was starting my chemotherapy early Jan 2004.
I was originally booked in for 3 intensive chemotherapy sessions but ended up having 4 after having a blip with one of the sessions. Unfortunately, I spent my 30th birthday having chemotherapy!
I was supposed to be having a 3 week holiday in Tenerife, but my health was far more important so this had to be cancelled. Eventually I got the all clear in May 2004 but still had to attend hospital regularly to have blood tests and regular check ups for the next 5 years! luckily over this time there was no change in my bloods so I needed no further hospital appointments. My motto now is LIVE FOR TODAY AND CHECK YOUR BALLS!”
